Baku isn’t just a city. It’s a coastal experience shaped by one of the world’s most extraordinary bodies of water: the Caspian Sea. Unlike tourist-heavy Mediterranean resorts or the crowded shores of Antalya, Baku beach resorts and coastline offers something rarer: a blend of modern promenade culture, calm swimmable water, and a futuristic skyline that frames every sunset.
What surprises most visitors is the quiet confidence of it all. There are no crashing waves. No hawkers on every towel. The Caspian is an inland sea with gentle, flat water, and the beach culture here is distinctly Azerbaijani: warm, social, and genuinely unhurried.
“The Caspian at dusk, with Baku’s Flame Towers glowing behind you, is the kind of view that makes you rebook your flight home.”

The Caspian is the world’s largest inland body of water, spanning five countries across 370,000 square kilometres. For beach travellers, the key facts are practical: the water is calmer and saltier than the ocean, making it excellent for swimming and floating. Temperatures peak at 24 to 28°C in July and August, dropping to a refreshing 20°C by September. There are no tides and almost no currents.
The one caveat every visitor should know: Baku is called the “City of Winds” for good reason. The Khazri, a cold north wind off the Caspian, can roll in fast and drop temperatures by 8 to 10°C in under an hour, even in summer.
Wind Warning: Always carry a light layer at the beach for Caspian Sea Baku activities, especially if you plan to stay past 5 pm. The Khazri arrives without much warning and can make an evening on the shore uncomfortably cold.

Bilgah Beach is one of the most complete best beaches near Baku for families. The golden sandy stretch is clean, the water quality is better than many urban beaches, and the atmosphere feels lively yet comfortable. You’ll find sunbeds, umbrellas, cafes, music, and plenty of friendly families enjoying the Caspian breeze.
A balanced mix of cleanliness, comfort, and activities which are great for families, couples, and general beach lovers.

Close to the city center, Shikhov Beach is popular because of its easy accessibility. While some parts are public, the organized sections offer lifeguards, showers, shaded areas, and café facilities.
A convenient beach with enough comfort and water sports to keep you busy, great for short visits.
