10 Beautiful Duas for Umrah to Recite During Your Journey

A Spiritual Companion by Uniworld Travel & Tours

There are few journeys in a believer’s life as deeply moving as Umrah the sacred visit to the House of Allah in Makkah and the city of His beloved Prophet ️ﷺ in Madinah. From the moment you put on the simple white Ihram until you complete your final ritual, every step is an opportunity to turn to Allah with heartfelt supplication. The duas for Umrah you carry with you become the language of your heart in these blessed moments.

Allah ️ﷷ reminds us in the Qur’an of the power of calling upon Him: “And your Lord says, ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you.’” (Surah Ghafir 40:60). Umrah is one of those rare times when a believer stands at the most beloved places on earth, where duas are answered and hearts are softened. Knowing the right supplications in advance helps you stay present, focused, and connected throughout your pilgrimage.

In this guide, we have gathered 10 beautiful duas for Umrah each with its Arabic text, easy transliteration, and clear English meaning arranged in the order you will need them during your journey. Whether you are travelling on one of our Umrah packages from Karachi, or planning your trip independently, keep this list close so that no precious moment passes without remembrance of Allah.

A Gentle Note Before You Begin

Before the list, it helps to understand one important point. Apart from the Talbiyah and the verse recited during Tawaf between the two corners, there is no single fixed wording that a pilgrim is obliged to repeat during Tawaf and Sa’i. The scholars agree that you may make any sincere dua, in any language, in your own words. The supplications below are recommended, time-honoured, and beloved but they are a starting point, not a rigid script. Speak to Allah from your heart, and let these duas guide and enrich that conversation.

1. Dua Before Starting the Journey (Travel Dua)

Your Umrah begins the moment you set out. As you board your transport or flight, the Sunnah is to glorify Allah and acknowledge that He alone has made the journey possible. This du’a, taken from the Qur’an (Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:13–14), sets a humble, grateful tone for everything ahead.

Transliteration: Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin.

Meaning: “Glory is to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could never have it by our efforts.”

When to recite: As you begin any leg of travel leaving home, boarding a plane, or starting the drive to Makkah. Many pilgrims also add the full travel du’a asking Allah for ease, safety and righteousness on the trip.

2. The Talbiyah The Call of Umrah

Once you make the intention (niyyah) for Umrah and enter the state of Ihram, you begin reciting the Talbiyah. This is the heartbeat of the pilgrimage a joyful, repeated declaration that you have answered Allah’s call. Men recite it aloud; women say it softly.

Meaning: “Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Indeed, all praise, grace and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.”

When to recite: Continuously and often from the moment you enter Ihram until you reach the Kaaba to begin Tawaf. Repeat it at every change of state climbing, descending, meeting others, and after each prayer.

3. Dua When Entering Masjid al-Haram

As you step into Masjid al-Haram and your eyes prepare to fall upon the Kaaba for the first time, enter with your right foot and ask Allah to open the doors of His mercy. It is a moment many pilgrims never forget.

Transliteration: Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik.

Meaning: “O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.”

When to recite: While entering any mosque, and especially as you enter Masjid al-Haram. Upon first seeing the Kaaba, raise your hands and make personal du’a it is a moment when supplications are deeply accepted.

4. Dua During Tawaf (Between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone)

During the seven circuits of Tawaf, you are free to make any du’a you wish. However, between the Yemeni Corner (Rukn al-Yamani) and the Black Stone (Hajr al-Aswad), the Prophet ️ﷺ is reported to have recited this comprehensive Qur’anic du’a (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:201).

Transliteration: Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina ‘adhaban-nar.

Meaning: “Our Lord, grant us goodness in this world and goodness in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”

When to recite: On each circuit as you pass between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone. Throughout the rest of the Tawaf, supplicate freely ask for whatever your heart desires.

5. Dua at Maqam Ibrahim

After completing Tawaf, you move towards the Station of Ibrahim (Maqam Ibrahim) to pray two short units of prayer, if space allows. Allah commands this in the Qur’an (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:125).

Transliteration: Wattakhidhu min maqami Ibrahima musalla.

Meaning: “And take the standing place of Ibrahim as a place of prayer.”

When to recite: As you approach Maqam Ibrahim after Tawaf. Pray two rak‘ahs behind it (reciting Surah Al-Kafirun in the first and Surah Al-Ikhlas in the second is recommended), then make personal du’a.

6. Dua While Drinking Zamzam Water

Blessed Zamzam water is a gift unlike any other. The Prophet ️ﷺ taught that Zamzam is “for whatever it is drunk for.” So drink with intention facing the Qiblah, in three breaths and ask Allah for the good you seek.

Transliteration: Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman nafi‘an wa rizqan wasi‘an wa shifa’an min kulli da’.

Meaning: “O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and a cure from every disease.”

When to recite: After praying at Maqam Ibrahim, before beginning Sa’i, and at any time you drink Zamzam. Make your own heartfelt requests too for health, family, and forgiveness.

7. Dua / Verse at Safa and Marwah (Beginning Sa’i)

Now you proceed to Sa’i walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah, remembering the trust of Hajar. As you approach Safa for the first time, recite this verse (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:158), which the Prophet ️ﷺ recited at the start of Sa’i.

Transliteration: Innas-Safa wal-Marwata min sha‘a’irillah, faman hajjal-bayta awi‘tamara fala junaha ‘alayhi an yattawwafa bihima, wa man tatawwa‘a khayran fa-innallaha Shakirun ‘Alim.

Meaning: “Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever performs Hajj or Umrah of the House, there is no blame upon him for walking between them. And whoever volunteers good then indeed, Allah is Appreciative and Knowing.”

When to recite: Once, as you approach Safa to begin Sa’i, adding “I begin with what Allah began with.” On each hill, face the Qiblah, raise your hands, glorify Allah, and supplicate freely between the hills.

8. Dua for Forgiveness During Sa’i

As you walk between the hills, a beautiful and authentic supplication to repeat is this simple plea for mercy and forgiveness narrated as a du’a made during Sa’i.

Transliteration: Rabbighfir warham wa anta khayrur-rahimin.

Meaning: “My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of the merciful.”

When to recite: Repeatedly while walking between Safa and Marwah, and at any quiet moment when you long for Allah’s forgiveness.

9. Dua for Ease and Acceptance

Pilgrimage can be physically demanding crowds, heat, and long walks. This short, powerful du’a asks Allah to make every part of your worship easy and to complete it with goodness. Keep it on your tongue throughout the journey.

Meaning: “O Allah, make it easy and do not make it difficult, and complete it with goodness.”

When to recite: Whenever you feel tired or anxious, before each ritual, and as a general du’a for ease throughout your Umrah.

10. Dua After Completing Umrah

After Halq or Taqsir (shaving or trimming the hair), your Umrah is complete and you exit the state of Ihram. It is a moment of immense gratitude. Pilgrims often exchange this heartfelt prayer of acceptance with one another.

Transliteration: Taqabbal-Allahu minna wa minkum.

Meaning: “May Allah accept (this worship) from us and from you.”

When to recite: After completing your Umrah and when greeting fellow pilgrims. Above all, thank Allah abundantly and continue making du’a the journey of worship does not end when the rituals do.

Frequently Asked Questions About Umrah Duas

Is there a specific dua that is compulsory during Umrah?

The only required recitation is the Talbiyah after entering Ihram. For Tawaf and Sa’i there is no fixed obligatory wording you may supplicate freely. The verse “Rabbana atina…” between the two corners during Tawaf is a recommended Sunnah, not an obligation.

Can I make dua in my own language during Umrah?

Yes. While reciting the established Arabic supplications carries special reward, Allah understands every language. You are encouraged to pour out your heart in whatever words you know best, especially during Tawaf and Sa’i.

When are duas most likely to be accepted during Umrah?

Highly blessed moments include the first sight of the Kaaba, during prostration, between the adhan and iqamah, while drinking Zamzam, on the hills of Safa and Marwah, and in the last third of the night. Make the most of these times.

Do I need to memorise all these duas before travelling?

No. Memorise the short, frequently used ones such as the Talbiyah and the du’a for ease, and keep the rest in a small booklet or app. Sincerity and presence of heart matter far more than perfect recall.

What is the difference between the duas of Umrah and Hajj?

Most supplications overlap, since both involve Tawaf, Sa’i and the Talbiyah. Hajj includes additional rites at Mina, Arafah and Muzdalifah with their own special duas. You can learn more through our Hajj packages and guides.
