The best transfer from Jeddah Airport to Makkah depends on your arrival terminal, luggage, group size and onward hotel access. Choose the Haramain train when its departure fits your arrival and everyone can manage the station transfer. Compare a direct car for families, substantial luggage or assistance needs, and a scheduled bus when keeping costs down matters more than flexibility.
For Pakistani Umrah travellers, the useful comparison is the complete journey from airport arrivals to hotel reception. A low ticket price can lose its advantage once you add connecting transport, waiting and luggage handling.
Before booking, check five things
Start with these questions before comparing fares:
- Is transport already included? Read your package voucher and identify the airport-to-hotel leg specifically.
- Which terminal will you use? Confirm with your airline and recheck before departure.
- What are you carrying? Count large cases, cabin bags, strollers and mobility equipment.
- Who needs assistance? Consider walking, standing, boarding and transferring between vehicles.
- Where must the journey finish? Use the hotel’s exact name, address and vehicle entrance.
If you are comparing Umrah packages from Pakistan, ask whether the arrival transfer is private or shared. “Transport included” should also identify the route, meeting arrangements and any waiting conditions.
These answers narrow the choice more reliably than a headline claim about the fastest or cheapest transport.
Taking the Haramain train from Jeddah Airport to Makkah
The Haramain railway provides an airport-to-Makkah connection, with the airport station serving Terminal 1. If your flight arrives elsewhere, confirm the current terminal connection before buying a ticket. An airport station does not mean every arriving passenger has the same walk to the platform.
Select the airport departure station rather than central Jeddah when searching the official Haramain booking portal. Check the service date, departure time, arrival time, passenger details and ticket conditions before payment.

The train journey ends at Makkah station
Makkah railway station is separate from Masjid al-Haram and your hotel. Include the next stage in your plan: a taxi, confirmed shuttle or arranged pickup to the property.
Haramain lists taxis and Haram shuttle services among its station facilities. That does not establish a free hotel transfer or a connection timed to every train. Confirm the actual service you intend to use, especially with luggage or limited mobility.
Rail is worth comparing for a solo traveller or couple with manageable bags and a suitable departure. Its scheduled running time can help planning, but the total airport-to-hotel journey also includes waiting and the final road connection.
Check suitcase dimensions as well as weight
The Haramain baggage policy checked on 3 November 2026 permits one large bag per passenger, weighing up to 25 kg and measuring no more than 65 × 55 × 35 cm, plus one permitted hand-luggage item.
An airline-approved suitcase may exceed those dimensions. Measure your cases before purchasing rail tickets, and ask the operator about strollers, wheelchairs or unusual items. Do not assume that paying for a higher class automatically resolves excess baggage.
Choosing an airport taxi, ride app or private transfer
Road transport avoids the Makkah railway-station change and can simplify arrival for a group. However, the booking method affects how you find the vehicle, establish the fare and handle delays.
Official airport taxi
Follow airport signs to the authorised taxi area. Give the driver the hotel address and confirm the fare or meter arrangement, vehicle capacity and destination before loading your luggage.
Do not treat an old online fare as an official current tariff. Request a receipt and keep the vehicle details with your booking records.
Uber, Careem and other ride apps
The airport lists app-based transport at Terminal 1. Check your chosen app’s instructions for the actual arrival terminal rather than assuming that another service’s pickup point applies.
An app ride requires working connectivity and an accepted payment method. Check the vehicle category and luggage space before confirming. A lower quote is only useful if that vehicle can carry your entire party and all its bags.
Pre-booked private transfer
A private transfer can suit first-time arrivals, families and travellers who need a vehicle arranged before departure. Its value depends on the written terms.
Ask when included waiting begins: scheduled landing, actual landing or another agreed point. Establish what happens if immigration takes longer than expected, your terminal changes or the flight is delayed overnight.
Also confirm the meeting point and hotel drop-off arrangements. “Meet and greet” should explain where you meet; “hotel transfer” should explain the planned endpoint and what happens if vehicle access changes.
Can you take a bus from Jeddah Airport to Makkah?
Yes, a scheduled bus is an option to investigate, alongside any coach already included in your Umrah package. These are different services with different boarding arrangements.
Northwest Bus’s published April 2026 timetable identifies route NW28 between Jeddah Airport’s North Terminal, Terminal 1 and Makkah Bus Station in Jarwal. Use Northwest Bus’s official website to confirm the current airport departure, fare, baggage allowance and arrival stop for your date.
The published timetable establishes the route, but an older schedule should not be treated as a guarantee of today’s departure times. You also need a plan from the Makkah bus station to your hotel.
For a package coach, ask whether departure depends on other passengers arriving and whether several hotel drop-offs are planned. Do not assume a free airport-to-Makkah shuttle operates because an older article mentions one.
Compare the complete transfer cost
Compare costs for the whole party rather than placing one train ticket beside one vehicle fare.
Rail total = all passenger tickets + any terminal connection + Makkah station-to-hotel transport.
Road total = suitable vehicle quote + any excluded parking, waiting or agreed extras.
An illustrative family calculation
Suppose four passengers each have a rail fare of SAR 70, and their suitable station-to-hotel vehicle costs SAR 50. These are hypothetical inputs, not current advertised prices.
Their rail total is 4 × SAR 70 + SAR 50 = SAR 330.
If a suitable direct vehicle is quoted at SAR 300 with all required charges included, the road option costs SAR 30 less for the party. For one passenger using the same assumed inputs, rail plus the final vehicle costs SAR 120, making the direct car SAR 180 more expensive.
For that four-person example, the break-even rail fare is (SAR 300 − SAR 50) ÷ 4 = SAR 62.50 per passenger. Below that average ticket price, rail becomes cheaper under those assumptions.
Replace every input with your actual quote, including child fares and sufficient luggage capacity. Price alone still cannot resolve accessibility or an unsuitable connection.
How much time should you allow after landing?
There is no reliable universal landing-to-hotel time. Build your plan from separate stages instead of adding the train’s running time or a clear-road estimate directly to the flight arrival.
For rail, include disembarkation, immigration, baggage collection, customs, movement to the station, required boarding time, the train journey and onward transport. For road, include airport formalities, finding the vehicle and the drive to the agreed hotel access point.
Test your connection before paying
Consider a hypothetical 10:00 landing followed by a 12:00 train. There are 120 minutes between them. If you allocate 90 minutes for airport formalities and reaching the station, only 30 minutes remain for the operator’s required boarding margin and unexpected delays.
Those allowances are illustrative, not predictions or railway rules. Compare the remaining time with the operator’s actual requirements. If the plan only works when everything runs perfectly, choose a later departure or a different transfer.
Check the hotel’s room availability separately. A successful morning transfer does not guarantee immediate check-in. The Makkah hotel booking guide explains the accommodation decisions to coordinate with your arrival.
Match the transfer to your group’s needs
Travelling alone with a small case: compare the next suitable train and bus departures, including the cost and effort of reaching your hotel afterward.
Travelling with children and several cases: request a vehicle assessment using passenger numbers, bag quantities and stroller details. Advertised seating capacity does not establish luggage capacity with every seat occupied.
Travelling with an older parent or wheelchair user: compare every change between vehicles. For rail, confirm assistance and the Makkah pickup. For road, establish whether the traveller can transfer into a seat or needs a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.
Arriving late: check transport availability for the actual service date. A departure shortly after midnight belongs to the next calendar day. Keep a backup contact if your original connection becomes impractical.
A hotel’s Haram bus is another separate service. Our guide to Makkah hotels with free Haram shuttles explains what to establish before relying on one during your stay.
Send this pickup checklist before departure
Give your transfer provider the flight number, Saudi arrival date and local time, terminal, hotel address, passenger numbers, children’s ages, bag count and assistance requirements.
Then request written answers to these questions:
- Where exactly do we meet, and whom do we contact if we cannot find you?
- Which vehicle will carry our passengers and luggage?
- What is the total price, and which charges remain payable?
- How much waiting is included, and what happens after a delay?
- Where will we be dropped, and what is the alternative if access changes?
Save the confirmation, hotel pin and contact numbers offline. Ask the hotel to confirm the vehicle entrance so the driver has a more precise destination than “near the Haram.”
Frequently asked questions
Is the train always faster than a taxi?
No. Compare airport-to-hotel journeys. A train’s scheduled running time excludes waiting, boarding and onward transport. A direct vehicle removes the station change, while its journey depends on road conditions.
How much does a Jeddah Airport to Makkah transfer cost?
The total depends on travel date, transport type, passenger numbers and vehicle requirements. Obtain current ticket prices and vehicle quotes, then include connecting rides and excluded charges. The worked example above is a calculation method, not a fare list.
Can a seven-seat vehicle carry seven people and their suitcases?
Do not assume so. Ask the provider to confirm the exact passenger and luggage combination, including child seats, strollers and mobility equipment. You may need a larger vehicle.
Does a free Haram shuttle include airport pickup?
Not automatically. Hotel-to-Haram transport and airport arrival transfers serve different routes. Have each required journey listed separately on your confirmation.
What if my flight delay causes me to miss the train?
Check your ticket’s change and refund conditions and contact the operator promptly. Do not assume an airline delay creates a right to a free replacement train ticket. Keep funds and contact details for an alternative transfer.
